As confirmed by the article written by Marina Alcaraz in Les Echos, Meta has postponed indefinitely the putting online of its new artificial intelligence model in Europe, due to an “uncertain” regulatory framework in the European Union. In particular, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram cites “a lack of clarity from regulatory authorities”.
Some analysts think that such uncertainties can be a problem for Meta. Interviewed by Les Echos, our partner Alan Walter evokes a completely different argument.
“I consider this is a force move by Meta to ask for more flexibility, he underlines. The uncertainties raised by Meta are unfounded insofar as the conditions of application of the GDPR are very clear: it is necessary to inform the people and determine the legal basis provided – in particular, request the consent of users or establish a contract with them – and explain to regulators the way in which we will protect the data.”
